CONTACT ME

You made it! Hello and welcome. Firstly, I think you may like to learn a little bit about me and what I do and why I have started this fabulous blog! My name is Anna (my friends and family call me Spanna) and I live in a little rural town 180km north of Melbourne. I am a mother of two beautiful children, Charlie and Matilda, a wife to an overworked farmer, Mr. Farmer, and most importantly, I am the owner/operator of two sheep studs. I work full time on the farm doing all sorts of jobs (this will become clearer in the blog posts) but my biggest passion would have to be food (and wine!).

Growing up in the country connects you not only to the land in a primal way but also makes you appreciate the provenance of your food. We run approximately 4,500 sheep at any one time which gives us access to incredibly fresh meat! I know exactly what goes in their mouths and their welfare is my highest priority.

I have started this food blog because as an extremely busy woman I would like to take some time for myself and focus on something other than looking after animals (and I don’t mean the family!) and the household. Oh man, this is now going to make me busier but in a different capacity!! I also wanted to highlight how good farming is and what we farmers get up to on a day to day basis. I love reading various different food blogs and I thought, "Hey! I can do this. Can I do this? I think I can….."

This blog has come about because I recently had a flashbulb moment when I realised I could put my writing skills to work and share snippets of this farming life with others who might be interested, whether you too are on the land, or you live in the city, or in a rural village, indeed anywhere in the world.

My family breed fine wool Merino sheep, and my husband, Mr Farmer, and I have also recently developed a sideline in Poll Dorsets. My principal role is to manage the books and the more technological aspects of our enterprise, but I am also involved in the day to day outdoor work. Of course I also do the school run for Charlie and Matilda, cook and rouseabout for shearing,  keep a mean vegetable garden, look after my 8 chooks, fit in the odd game of tennis and basketball, occasionally wear my Agricultural Science hat with consultancy work or lecturing and also generally get involved in lots of community activities. No different to any other young farmer reading this!

I absolutely love cooking, entertaining and eating! The biggest challenge these days is to eat well, keep fit and manage other daily demands. Planning ahead is the key for me, especially given that the nearest supermarket is a half hour drive away, and "the big shop" almost an hour. I hope to be able to share some of my life hacks with you and perhaps it might help you along in your busy week.
