Picnic Slice

If you HAD to have a chocolate bar when you bought that coffee or paid for your fuel what would it be? Are you into gooey caramel, peanuts, crispy wafers and rice bubbles plus TWO layers of chocolate? Keep reading. This Picnic Slice has your name all over it.

Picnic Slice

Mr. Farmer’s favourite chocolate bar would have to be a Picnic (made by Cadbury). Whenever I do the shopping and they are on sale (they were 85cents the other day!) I pick up a handful for him to have at lunchtimes. I find they give him the sugar hit he needs to continue through the day and not get sugar hangry 🤣😆🤠!! And that is important when I have to work with him in the freezing cold yards putting collars on ewes and lambs. Trust me. I thought perhaps though that I could try making a slice that resembles a Picnic bar. I had a good look at the layers and came up with this recipe. They aren’t pantry staples I know but give it a go and let me know what you think! Head up to the Recipes and Blog page for the PDF printable recipe.

Ingredients

There isn’t too much that you need to do with this slice. It involves melting some chocolate, layering some wafer biscuits and then melting the caramels down to layer over the wafers. Above are all the things that I bought for the slice (from Woolies).

Once you melt the chocolate (and copha to help it bind and harden) you layer the wafers and then pop in the fridge. Melt the cream and butter with the caramels and then pour this over the wafer layer. Sprinkle over your peanuts and rice bubbles then press in with your fingers.

Let it harden again in the fridge while you make your topping. I used dark chocolate to give it a different layer but you can by all means use milk chocolate. I let it set in the fridge for a good hour before cutting it up.

You could probably freeze this slice too I would suggest so if you have a craving for a Picnic and you are nowhere near a shop then you have some on hand! And maybe hubby wouldn’t get hangry 😆😃😏.

The photo above is the bought Picnic on the right and my slice on the left! What do you reckon? Did I come close?!!!!
